FAQ
ABOUT OUR BUOYS
🛟 What should I consider when choosing a safety buoy?
Factors to consider include buoy size, visibility, durability, storage capacity, ease of use, and whether it offers dry storage for personal items. Choose a buoy that suits your swim environment, preferences, and safety needs.
- Buoy Size:
- Take into account what you will bring along for a swim and what your future needs might be.
- Larger buoys offer better visibility, so if there is heavy boat traffic where you swim, it might be a good idea to go with a larger size.
To learn more about our sizes, see here.
- Color:
- This is totally up to you; all options are highly visible.
- Storage capacity:
- If you don't plan to carry items while you swim, check out our tow float.
- Accessibility:
- If you need access to items while swimming, explore our special models.
- Durability:
- If you swim in saltwater, cold water, or rough conditions, consider our Ultra Drybag Buoy.
🛟 How do I choose the appropriate buoy size for my swim?
Choosing the right buoy size for you is a breeze. Just consider two things:
- What are you bringing with you for your swim?
- If it's keys, phone and a wallet, the medium size is perfect.
- If it's a towel and shoes, go with the popular large size.
- If it's hiking gear, opt for XL or XXL.
- Will you encounter boat traffic during your swim?
- If yes, go for the large model or larger size.
- If not, the medium size will suffice.
🛟 What is the difference between the Classic and the Ultra models?
The only difference is the material they are made from. The Classic (previously: Original) models are made out of PVC. All the other models are made out of a more eco-friendly and robust mixture of Thermoplastic polyurethane and Nylon. If you are in doubt, go for the Ultra (previously: Heavy-Duty) model; you will not regret it.
🛟 How do I choose the right color for my buoy?
The choice of color is fully up to your preference. All our buoy colors are highly visible in the water. If you are in doubt, just get the standard orange color.
🛟 Will I notice the buoy floating behind me?
In most cases, you will not feel the buoy behind you unless you fill it up with rocks :). The buoy sits nicely in the vortex created by your body and is floated along while you swim.
🛟 Is the buoy going to get in the way while I swim?
In most situations, no. However, in certain weather conditions, like heavy side or back winds, the buoy might shift from its usual position behind the body. Also, it is possible that a lack of a good swimming technique causes the swimmer's body to unnecessarily wiggle and thus allowing the swimmer's hands to reach over the midsection of the body and touch the buoy.
🛟 Will the float support my weight?
While it's a valid question, the buoyant force in the water already supports your weight, allowing you to float without additional buoyancy. Therefore, the buoy size has a minimal impact on your buoyancy. Additionally, please note that 360swim™ buoys are not designated as life-saving devices and should be used by proficient swimmers. They merely provide extra protection if needed.
🛟 What if I need a longer or shorter belt?
- If you need a shorter belt, simply wrap the belt around your waist two times.
- If you need a longer belt, you can purchase an extension belt. Check it out here.
🛟 Is the dry bag waterproof?
Our buoys are designed to be waterproof while in use and folded properly (at least 4 times). However, if you plan to store electronic devices in the dry compartment, it is highly recommended to use extra precaution and place them in their own waterproof cases (e.g., our Floating waterproof mobile case).
🛟 Can I access the dry bag while I swim?
If you require access to your items while swimming, we offer a special model designed for this purpose. Check it out here.
🛟 Can I attach items to the float (e.g., a whistle or a waterproof light)?
Absolutely. You can use a rubber band to span around the buoy to attach items, or when the buoy is closed, a loop is created from the buckles to hook things into. Alternatively, our buckles have a few holes where you can affix what you desire.
🛟 Can children use 360swim™ floats?
Yes, of course. Simple tow floats or medium-sized buoys are the best for children. However, please always supervise your child while using the floats, as buoys are not life-saving devices.
🛟 Can I use the 360swim™ buoy for night swimming?
Totally. Just slip your favorite LED flashlight into the dry compartment, close it up, and you're good to go. No need for anything fancy.
🛟 Are your buoys allowed in organized open water swimming events?
Rules may vary, but many open water swimming events permit the use of safety buoys. In fact, we work with many such events to provide a custom-printed version. It's a good idea to always check the specific event guidelines or contact the event organizers to confirm. If your desired event does not use buoys, suggest to them to reach out to us or let us know.
🛟 Can I use the float for snorkeling or scuba diving?
Our buoys are primarily designed for surface swimming. They are not intended for use during snorkeling or scuba diving, where specialized buoyancy devices are utilized. However, you can of course go the DIY route and attach a longer strap to your buoy to allow you to dive deeper while keeping the buoy at the surface. Be careful not to get tangled up though. Note: any modifications to the buoy setup are at your own risk.
🛟 Can I use the safety buoy for swim training or resistance exercises?
For sure. Just fill it up with heavy, dull objects and start dragging :).
🛟 Can I tow the buoy with a kayak or paddleboard?
You sure can. In fact, apart from keeping your items dry, it might also be a good place to store and cool your drinks.
🛟 Can I put my own logo on your buoys?
Short answer: yes. However, the catch is that your order has to be a bit larger. We cannot print custom logos on individual products. If you prefer a smaller quantity, you can consider asking at your local print shop or using a permanent marker for personalization. For more details, click here.

CARE and MAINTENANCE
🛠 How do I clean and maintain my buoy?
Rinse the buoy with fresh water after each use and let it dry completely. Check for damage or wear and tear. Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use, and keep the inflator valve open to allow it to air out.
🛠 What are the maintenance tips to ensure the longevity of my 360swim™ buoy?
Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for extended periods. It's not a good idea to leave it inflated in a hot car :). Before storing it, make sure it's dry, and regularly inspect it for signs of wear and tear.
🛠 My buoy is losing air. Why?
If you notice your buoy losing air, there are two possible scenarios to consider:
- Temperature-Related Compression: When the air inside the buoy is significantly warmer than the water temperature, it can cause the air inside the buoy to compress slightly. In this case, re-inflating the buoy during your swim should do the trick.
- Air Leakage: First, make sure the blue valve cap is screwed on tight. If you still suspect there may be an actual leak, we recommend finding the hole or damage in the buoy's material. Once you've identified the issue, please send us a picture or video of the problem to help@360swim.com
🛠 How do I repair a puncture or hole in my safety buoy?
Repairing a puncture depends on the location and size. Please send us a message via the contact form for guidance on repairing punctures or holes.
🛠 Can I purchase replacement parts or accessories for my 360swim™ buoy?
While replacement parts are rarely needed, if you require one, please let us know via the contact form, and we will assist you accordingly.
